Creative ideas make us uncomfortable

"Information is the difference that makes a difference." Gregory Bateson

I loved this statement about the nature of creativity in a post at Freakonomics about Why We Desire but Reject Creative Ideas. "Going forward, perhaps it’s not that we need to get better at producing creative ideas, but at learning how to accept them."

Nearly everyone will affirm that they value creative ideas, but if new ideas are by their very nature untested and untried - and they are - or have a suspect heritage - what would a solution in that industry have to do with ours? - then perhaps the most productive thing that innovators can do is simply to be open to difference.

I hope to see you at the IdeaFestival. Stay curious.
